For the last two years, I have made it a point to read more. I love a good self-help, women empowerment or business book. The first year I only read books that were on my shelf that I had never read (I have a ton more of these to read). Last year, I read any book that someone referred to me. And I have to say last year so many books helped me grow as a mother, wife and business owner.
This year I decided to research the best business books out there. There are a ton of them out there so I reviewed a few and curated my own list for 2017. I will make sure to recap my lessons learned from these books as I read them this year. On this list are a few oldie but goodies, new releases for 2017 and a few self-publish books that I have been dying to read. I made sure to provide the Amazon link to purchase each book to make sure you can read along with me. Enjoy!
Empress Has No Clothes: Conquering Self-Doubt to Embrace Success by Joyce M. Roche
Last year God laid it on my heart to write a book about self-doubt and the imposter syndrome. I told a few friends about my goals and they recommended this book by Joyce M. Roche. The funny thing is I met Joyce at Black Enterprise Women of Power Conference a few years ago about this very topic and here I am full circle writing a book about self-doubt. I cannot wait to read this book and see if we have similar thoughts about the imposter syndrome.

I’m Judging You: The Do-Better Manual by Luvvie Ajayi
This book appears on the ‘gram (Instagram that is) at least 3 times a day. I was introduced to Luvvie a few months ago and I hate I missed her while she was in Atlanta. I love her story, her transparency and I heard this book is amazing. Luvvie is amazing blogger (I want to be her when I grow up) and has built an empire with AwesomelyLuvvie.com. I cannot wait to get my hands on this read for 2017.

Power of Broke by Daymond John
I have been following Daymond John for years and I love Shark Tank. He started his first business FUBU with only $40 and innovative ways to market his product. He turned that $40 investment into a $6 billion dollar global apparel line. He has always said that starting a business in a “broke” state helps to fuel your creativity. Most entrepreneurs do not have a lot of startup capital. I am interested in his ideas and tips he used to build his brand.

48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene
I have heard mixed reviews about this book but I am one to make my own opinions. The book explains the 48 Laws of Power and how to play the game of gaining power strategically. Some reviews call it insane while others said it was amazing. I guess I will find out.

This is Just My Face: Try Not to Stare by Gabourey Sidibe
I love me some Gabby. I cannot wait for her memoir to come out. Gabourey is an award winning actress making her debut role in the movie Precious. Lord knows, that movie hurt me to the core and Gabourey was so powerful in that role. Over the years people have publicly hated on her because of her weight and every time she claps back (comes up with a witty response) that stops her haters in her tracks. I know this book will not disappoint.

This is the year to finally take the leap. I have been back and forth on the direction of my business for the last 2 years (yes I realize that is a long time). I have heard great things about Lara Casey and cannot wait to read about her story and how she finally decided to make it happen for her and her family.
