What services does your business offer?
My business is a ministry of beauty. The original designs I create have been described as expressive and beautiful. I aim to bring a little more beauty into others world. Also, provide a fun creative experience for those who want to unleash the artist within. My paint parties are for small gatherings of family and friends at home or large groups to include Birthday and Bridal parties, Sororities, Church Events, Youth groups, Corporate events, School Alumnae events, and fundraisers.
Why did you start this business?
On my daughter’s 7th birthday I thought it would be fun to give her a paint party. I was an artist so why not! Afterward, a dear friend suggested I consider going into business and I did!
Why did you enter into this industry?
I have always loved the arts. Drawing was one of my favorite pastime growing up but life happened and I laid my gift down. I decided to chase other ventures and eventually ran into what was already in me—an artist. So, I entered the industry to help bring a little more beauty to the lives of others through my artwork. And, as another means of income to help my husband with taking care our family and live out one of my passions.
What challenges did you face launching your business?
When starting paint parties, I did not have enough supplies to accommodate large groups. A generous gift from a family friend supported me in getting what was needed to hit the ground running.
Additionally, my paint party business is mobile in which I come to the clients. Many, however, prefer painting away from their homes to enjoy the creative experience. Occasionally, I would partner with local a gallery or businesses to host paint parties. This causes me to increase my prices and at times there were scheduling conflicts.
What tools do you use to help manage your business?
Inspiration is everywhere! I usually have a mini sketch book or paper in my purse to sketch an idea I may consider painting.
My mornings start with prayer, Bible reading, and Biblical declarations. After my quiet time, I have Bible study/reading and prayer with my children before school. I exercise 4-5 times per week. And my family and I end our day with readings from a devotional book and/or Bible and prayer.
“May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed.” Psalm 20:4
3 Things in your purse you cannot live without:
iPhone, a book (if I’m not reading one on my iPhone) and tinted lip-balm.
Advice I would give to my younger self:
I would look her in the eyes, gently cup her face with my hands and tell her: You are GORGEOUS. You are GOOD ENOUGH and You are so LOVED. Then I would hug her and softly kiss her cheek telling her Don't be afraid God's plan for you will surprise your socks off! Keep dreaming. Dream BIG and know God's dream for you is BIGGER! And with God you will do life marvelously.
Purposely created to live on purpose.
