Bio: 

Born and raised in Inglewood, California, since the age of 2, Kesha has been enamored with fashion ever since her mother put her in a big poofy dress with white lace ankle socks and a pair of black patent leather Mary Jane shoes. Kesha has worked several positions in the fashion industry –  sales associate, to visual merchandiser, to fashion buyer, to running an online retail store,  and currently,  owner of a brick and mortar location of Funky Flair Boutique since November 2012.

What products does your business offer? 

Funky Flair Boutique specializes in unique and affordable apparel and accessories for women who want to make a statement with their fashion.

Why did you start your business?

The business was established in 2007 with doing local trunk shows and expos. In 2010, the website was launched and in 2012, the brick and mortar opened.

Why did you enter this industry?

I absolutely am enamored with fashion and assisting with women looking and feeling good in regards to their wardrobe. I am all about women empowerment.

What challenges did you face launching your business?

Money is always going to be an ongoing issue in any business. So, being in business for 4 years now, I would say the biggest challenge would be working capital.

What helped you transition from corporate to full-time entrepreneurship?

Having incompetent supervisors literally pushed me into entrepreneurship – it was truly a blessing in disguise. I vowed to myself to always continue to educate myself in my craft to become an expert in my field.

What corporate experience helped you with your business?

No experience in particular, but from the industries I have worked, I have learned to be ethical and genuine – most people/consumers respect those traits.

What tech tools & processes do you use for your business?

Unfortunately, I am not very “techy”, so I am blessed to have a team who support my vision and understand what I am trying to execute

Morning/ Evening Routine: 

Monday thru Friday, I wake up at 3 am to get my day started with prayer/meditation and then proceed with my daily “to do list”

Wallet, lipstick, and my phone
