Her Business: English Pro Virtual Tutoring Services

Location: McDonough, Georgia

About Her:

My name is Toye Wheeler, and I am a walking paradox: I love words AND numbers! I pride myself on being both an innovative English Instructor and a professional Tax Specialist. I’ve taught English at several colleges and universities in the Metro Atlanta area, but I currently offer virtual and face-to-face tutoring to students of all ages and walks of life. Additionally, I prepare taxes for individuals and small businesses as needed.
When I am not making a living running these two ventures, I am a mother to five magnificent children and a wife to one ravishing husband. My hobbies include baking, writing creatively, and dancing!

What services does your business offer?

As an experienced English Instructor, I offer:

* Individual and group personalized English tutoring to students of all ages
*Proofreading/ Editing Services
* Business Plan and Proposal Writing
*Resume/ CV/ Cover Letter Writing

As an  ERO and certified tax specialist, I offer:

*Computing, preparation, and E-filing of individual and small business federal and state tax returns
*Comprehensive knowledge of current tax law

Why did you start this business?

I actually began English tutoring while studying in undergrad at Clayton State University in 2008. After graduating and teaching both adjunct and full-time at Clayton State University, Strayer University, and Westwood College, I further enhanced my desire to teach others the power of words through individualized tutoring.
I also began preparing taxes while in undergrad after discovering that I could complete my own with ease.

Why did you enter into this industry?

The art of the word has always been a passion of mine. I decided that either I wanted to use words to communicate with others, or I wanted to teach it. Indeed I do both!
The preparation of taxes derived out of necessity; we all need our taxes prepared with care annually, at least.

What challenges did you face launching your business?

One common challenge that I’ve faced in building both my businesses and maintaining them has been maintaining a healthy work/life/ family balance. There are only 24 hours in one day, and sometimes I just need more!

What experiences did you learn from corporate America?

Teaching on a college/university level has definitely further prepared me to teach others and work alongside them.

What tools do you use to help manage your business?

Most of my tutoring is virtual via Skype, and I really find TaxAct tax prep software to be a godsend.
